The purpose of the Reliability Engineer is to ensure uninterrupted production through direction of a maintenance group using effective preventive maintenance programs and prompt, correct equipment repair.  The Maintenance Superintendent role reports to this position. This position is responsible to oversee the continuous improvement of the plant’s technical reliability by using best practices, knowledge, experience and the plant’s maintenance planning systems.  The position is also responsible to support manufacturing efforts by ensuring a well-designed maintenance program is implemented.





  • Analyze persistent equipment problems and work with the Technical, Production, and Maintenance groups to formulate corrective actions.
  • Maximize equipment uptime and machine reliability through comprehensive preventive maintenance programs and competent, quick repair of down equipment.
  • Maintain effective systems for scheduling of work orders and measurement of costs.
  • Seek out and initiate projects (capital or process) to improve the plant’s maintenance processes and reduce unexpected equipment downtime.
  • Prepare annual Maintenance department budgets and control spending against the approved budget.
  • Ensure all outside contractor maintenance work is conducted in accordance with plant standards (safety, housekeeping, etc.).
  • Develop standards of performance and performance objectives for sub-ordinates - periodically review and update.
  • Direct maintenance department policies to ensure a continuously improved maintenance system is implemented.
  • Track performance of maintenance to measure and improve results.
  • Ensure all Maintenance personnel have required qualifications, and ensure training of all personnel is completed to ensure safe work practices, and to meet regulatory and plant requirements
  • Accountable and responsible to ensure all relative elements of the TPM (Total Productive Management) process (Focused Improvement, Autonomous Management, Planned Maintenance, and Training And Education) are managed within the TPM sustainability process
  • Develop and motivate all employees to maximize efficiency and effectiveness




  • BS or MS in chemical or mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering and maintenance supervision.
  • Physical requirements (lifting up to 10 lbs, climbing stairs)
  • Comfortable with use of a respirator
  • Math/reading/writing skills
  • Previous management experience
  • Strong communication and people skills
