The Process Automation and Controls (PAC) Engineer is an engineer within the Engineering Department.  He/she is responsible for all aspects of process automation and controls engineering as a support function to production for the safe and efficient operation of the process equipment e.g. mechanical, electrical and instrument, specifically through automation and controls systems such as the Emerson DeltaV DCS and the site PLCs.

He/she should lead or contribute to process improvement initiatives and interact closely with the related functions within the BU PP and PT&E to provide guidance to the Production department.

He/she will also lead and supervise the I&E Technicians working in the plant, providing them with guidance and expertise. Selection and development of staff as well as development of the I&E group based on site and business needs.






  • Ensuring that the principles of Responsible Care, including Community/Awareness programs, are applied to all aspects of the work, as detailed below.
  • Supervise and prepare estimates for capital projects and drive the budgeting process.
  • Organise, supervise and control engineering contractors and sub-contractors, including the monitoring of man-hours, invoices and general project costs.
  • Develop and monitor systems for the forecasting and reconciliation of monthly Capital project and Maintenance engineering costs.
  • Prepare and submit to the Engineering Manager, monthly reports summarising the status of on-going capital projects.
  • Ensure / support that adequate process automation related equipment maintenance systems and programs are in place and that such programs are operated in a safe and efficient manner and meet or exceed all regulatory requirements.
  • Design, develop and implement and maintain process automation improvements.
  • Tests, troubleshoots, and provides solutions to technical automation problems.
  • Optimize process automation and controls to meet customer and internal requirements.
  • Develop and maintain process related documentation (P&IDs, Loop Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, etc.)
  • Co-ordinate automation and controls changes, both equipment and facilities, which require engineering input, which are requested by the Production department or other departments acting within Roehm.
  • Co-ordinate automation and controls changes that improve safety, plant yields, equipment, reliability, process quality and process robustness.
  • As required, hire or release contract personnel.
  • Ensure that the fellow staff and contractors are at all times fully informed of the immediate requirements and are provided with appropriate goals, or targets for a given shift or period.
  • Provide Engineering support to the Maintenance department by introducing and performing adequate measures.
  • Where appropriate, ensure that prompt and effective reporting and investigation of accidents and incidents is carried out by the Engineering and support staff.
  • Ensure a high quality of Safety, Environmental and Quality Meetings are held by his direct reports.
  • Follow all safety, environmental, health, and security policies and procedures such as the MOC process.
  • Ensure that Engineering and support staff are trained employing current SOPs and other documentation consistent with legal or corporate needs.  Update personnel training records.
  • Sedentary work:  Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.





  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other technical degree from a recognized University, College or Institution and a minimum of 5 years of experience working with automation and controls. 
  • Preference will be given to specific experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS and experience within a PSM regulated chemical manufacturing environment.
