WHAT THE ROLE DELIVERS

The Lab Technician will support the Röhm America Production Site in Bay City, Texas, Manufacturing Operation comprising the Formalin, MAL, MMA Reaction, and Purification plants. This position is involved in daily material testing and evaluation to support existing products and new product development. This person will work in a state-of-the-art R&D lab to generate material testing data with high quality and reliability and will interact frequently with the Quality Supervisor, Operations staff, Engineering and Maintenance to drive project success as a team.  

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Perform and document quality assurance testing to ensure the accuracy and integrity of analytical results in adherence to the Röhm Laboratory Quality Assurance program. 

  • Learns and applies analytical standards and methods, and regulatory requirements (Federal, State and Local) in order to ensure compliance while completing assigned tasks. 

  • Ensure the lab is organized, properly maintained and that adequate supplies are available to meet daily requirements.  

  • Communicate and consult with Engineering, Production Operators, and Maintenance personnel to ensure accurate analyses and report results. 

  • Perform laboratory tests by different types of analytical tests (e.g. GC, LC, IC, titrations, pH, color measurements), control samples and perform calibration checks as required. 

  • Prepare and pack samples to send to third party labs. 

  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of self and other team members, performing quality work in a safe and environmentally conscientious manner. 

  • Maintain detailed legible and neat records of analytical work performed in logs, forms, documents and Röhm’s laboratory management system. 

  • Perform and document daily and weekly calibration checks, stability checks, system suitability tests of instruments and conduct calculations according to policies and procedures. 

  • Properly store and label all chemicals, solutions, and solvents in designated safe storage areas. 

  • Troubleshoot any issues with instruments and equipment. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING

  • 2 or more years of laboratory experience in a chemical manufacturing environment. 

  • Experience working under Safety rules in a Laboratory (academic or industry). 

  • Competent with the Microsoft Office Suite. 

  • Prior experience utilizing a LIMS Quality Lab management system is desired. 

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English. 

  • Knowledgeable and capable of performing test methods, qualitative and quantitative measurements, and analysis. 

  • Ability to work independently, complete lab assignments in a timely and efficient manner and be able to interact effectively with all site employees. 

  • Accurately record results by computer or writing for use by Quality lab and plant personnel. 

  • Required to work 12 hour rotating shift work schedule (including nights, weekends, holidays). Operating needs of the unit dictate work schedule. Will be required to work overtime; standby coverage assigned on some off days. 

  • Physical requirements – Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, or stooping is required. Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms. 

  • Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within the laboratory or manufacturing process areas. 

  • Ability to work outside as needed in harsh weather conditions.
