WHAT THE ROLE DELIVERS  

 

This is an amazing opportunity to influence and be a part of the Bay City Plant startup team at our new state-of-the-art MMA production facility! 

 

This role is the Management representative on the shift and will also assume overall responsibility for the production and process areas during their shift.  They will supervise the work activities of shift Production Technicians and lead the shift with a primary focus on maintaining a safe, compliant, and reliable plant that delivers the needs of the business. This role additionally serves as the site incident command during times of significant upset or emergency (injury to personnel, fire, spill, etc.).  The successful candidate should be able to promote a safe environment through a proactive approach to Operations, ensuring environmental compliance, operating reliably, and producing the highest quality product. The Shift Supervisor, Production, will work with Maintenance and all other departments to ensure safety, environmental, production and cost goals are met. Employees in this position receive work direction from the Operations Director and are responsible for shift operations activity.  

 

 
WHAT YOU WILL DO 

  • Lead shift Production Operator activity: Monitor the overall team and work environment in a professional manner to improve Operations performance, ESHQ performance, and ensure shift HR/IT compliance.   

  • Direct the activities of shift workers in the event of incidents or plant emergencies and serve as incident commander as required. 

  • Provide regular feedback and evaluate performance for their shift employees, including taking corrective action measures as needed utilizing Manager and HR assistance to maintain the highest standard of excellence.  

  • Ensure compliance with standards and safe work practices and encourage/involve the team to always implement and maintain a high level of safety. Execute production activities at a high-quality level during normal operations, shutdowns, and turnarounds.  

  • Make changes to the operating process necessary to maintain product quality. 

  • Evaluate corrective action and risk mitigation strategies based on the performance of plant equipment and process conditions.  

  • Be able to functionally stand in for or assist other members of the shift as required to complete assigned duties.  This will include developing a working knowledge of the DCS. 

  • Ensure the work permit process for equipment maintenance is completed in a timely manner and according to Röhm Bay City Maintenance, ESH and Operations standards.  

  • Effectively communicate process changes and abnormal situations to fellow team leads and senior management as required. 

  • Manage employee training program for respective shift and ensure all team members are up to date with mandatory training requirements and continuously developing functional process knowledge. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

WHAT WE ARE SEEKING   

  • 5 or more years of Production Operator experience in a related chemical manufacturing environment.  

  • Chemical manufacturing experience should include a working knowledge of distillation, thermal oxidation, reaction chemistry, OSHA PSM, and other general related chemical manufacturing processes.  

  • 2 or more years of experience working in a Team Lead/Supervisory capacity.  

  • A Process Technician certification/degree or related training is desired. 

  • Ability to lead, train and develop a team of Production Operators in their knowledge of chemical plant operation.  

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with a multi-functional team (Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, ESH, Quality) to ensure production efficiency. 

  • Communicate verbally and written using the English language. 

  • Required to work a 12-hour rotating shift work schedule (including nights, weekends, holidays). Operating needs will determine work schedule. Overtime will be required. Standby coverage will be assigned on some days off. 

  • Must follow all plant safety guidelines and policies, which includes the wearing of fire-retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (PPE). 

  • Position requires ability to climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities; ability to work at various heights; entry into confined spaces; work in various weather conditions; ability to listen and follow instructions.  Wearing respiratory protection will also be required for some tasks. 

  • Testing Requirements: Successful candidates will be required to take a physical examination, which includes a drug and fitness for duty exam and criminal background check.
