OVERVIEW

 

This position ensures the organization, planning, direction and control of engineering services and capital projects for the Roehm America Production Site in Bay City, TX comprising of the Formalin, MAL, and MMA Reaction & Purification Plants, and Utilities. The Incumbent supervises Project, Process, PAC and Plant Engineers as well as overseeing contracted engineering services. The position provides the technical expertise and leadership to continuously improve the chemical process plants in order to ensure the technical means for safe operation, compliance with regulations, to safeguard the desired technical plant availability, and to minimize cost. Moreover, it organizes the business processes within Engineering in cooperation with interfacing departments/functions on site and in the region (e.g. Technical Controlling, Procurement).

 

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Fully responsible for planning, managing, and organizing engineering for the production plants. This support includes all engineering support and capital project management as well as the responsibility for developing, aligning and managing the capital investment budget.  Accountable for the safe execution of capital projects.  
  • Responsible for maintaining the plant and its equipment and implementing a continuous improvement process to meet the required technical availability. This includes development of loss control plan.  
  • Provides process and project expertise which combines technical expertise in the application of new process developments, new equipment, new materials of construction and other innovations with in-depth knowledge of the plant requirements. Uses seasoned engineering judgement, the Roehm network, creativity and foresight to initiate studies, projects and new developments to anticipate and solve problems with a focus on long term solutions. 
  • Leads the Technical Department and all assigned staff, providing guidance and expertise to meet site and business needs.  Responsible for the development of team including recruiting, on-boarding, training, coaching and development of new members of the technical organization.
  • Develop sites technical standards, processes, and procedures in consultation with Roehm’s technical organization. This includes insuring that the digital twin handed over by the LiMA project is fully integrated and maintained.
  • Selects and manages contract engineering maintenance firms.
  • Anticipated travel of up to 10%.

 

WHAT IS EXPECTED

 

  • Master’s degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and 6+ years of experience OR bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and 10+ years of experience.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and coaching teams.
  • Extensive progressive chemical process and plant experience is necessary for this position. This should include some basic electrical knowledge, preferably up to medium voltage (25 kV).
  • Demonstrated ability in technical organizational establishment, and commissioning and start-up of greenfield plants.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the Site Management team in a complex environment (site and several of onsite plants are owned by 3rd parties).
  • Knowledge of digital twin strategies, and experience in data centric management of processes.
  • Strong communication, leadership, motivational, and networking skills. Ability to present and convince senior management up to executive level.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Power Point) and experience using SAP.
