WHAT THE ROLE DELIVERS

 

The Maintenance Shift Mechanic is part of a support group that is responsible for providing upkeep of all plant equipment and required to provide timely response to equipment failures.  He/she is responsive to production needs and strives to ensure safe and high quality operation of plant equipment at all times.  The position is critical to maintain OEE at desired levels.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

 

  • Performs all duties in a safe and orderly manner, according to SOPs.  Correctly uses all safety equipment when applicable.  Adheres at all times to safety requirements.
  • He/she will be aware of environmental concerns and operational hazards to prevent accidents to personnel and equipment and to protect the environment.
  • He/she will be familiar with the safe operation of all plant equipment and works closely with operations to ensure maximum safety at all times.
  •  Performs all work in a timely and efficient manner.  Checks out completed work with Operators and ensures that the job is done correctly the first time.
  • Consistently works with operations to improve the quality of products.  Trains operation personnel when necessary.
  • He/she is responsible for keeping working area clean, to include production areas when a job is completed.
  • Is aware of proper cleaning of maintenance shop equipment and performs this function after each use.
  • Utilizes maintenance shop tools as needed, and ensures that they are replaced to the tool crib after completion of each job.
  • Keeps personal tools in working order and in an orderly manner.
  • Returns unused spare parts to the stockroom and places them in the proper location.  Documenting the parts properly.
  • Store spare parts requiring repairs in clean and orderly manner.
  • Determine and locate materials required via SAP  Determine the best most efficient method of completing job assignments in compliance with standard times established.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork (work orders) and necessary SAP transaction to include all parts removed from the stock room, tool crib, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Complete projects assigned according to schedule.
  • Work from verbal and written instructions, including blue prints, schematic diagrams, sketches and bills of materials.  Consult technical manuals or factory specifications as required.
  • Be aware of proper operation of all equipment to include drill press, lathes, mills, welders, test equipment, calibration and test equipment, saws, grinders, presses, etc.
  • Function as part of the shift team and be familiar with all jobs performed by the shift.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on schedule to ensure equipment uptime.
  • Use all tools pertinent and incidental the craft line.
  • Use any and all materials necessary to accomplish the job assignment.
  • Remove, rebuild, repair and install standard components such as rollers, pulleys, shafts, sheaves, sprockets, couplings, chains, belts, gear boxes, speed reducers, brushes, etc.

  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repair to drives, idlers, wheels, clutches, lifts, speed reducers, couplings, dust collectors, service elevators, shafts, and cylinders.  Also, sharpen and set knives and bearings.
  • Remove, repair, clean, install, and maintain process material pumps, valves and related pipe for process material, gas lines, hydraulic pumps, vacuum pumps, etc.
  • Maintain and perform repairs to pneumatic systems, blowers, rotary valves, ducts,   gaskets, make-up air system, and HVAC system.
  • Remove, clean, repair and install water heaters, sinks, commodes, lavatories and all related plumbing and sanitary facilities, to include drinking fountains and all related supply and drain piping.
  • Level, align, balance and lag down components as necessary for transport.
  • Determine and isolate source of trouble in electrical motors, electrical equipment, and AC/DC electrical control circuits, including solid-state.  Make necessary repairs and modifications using machine prints, wiring diagrams, and schematic control diagrams.
  • Install, adjust, remove, repair and modify tachs, counters pulse generators, instruments, recording devices and indicators where they are a permanent part of equipment.
  • Install, maintain and calibrate DC controllers and tension systems.
  • Install new pneumatic and electronic instruments and control systems.  This includes adjustment, calibration and connection of all necessary tubing and wiring to ensure proper operation of the system.
  • Troubleshoot PLC mini and sub, such as Allen Bradley PLC 220/230, SLC 500, and AS/400 network cabling.
  • Have a good understanding of microprocessor based process equipment (TDC).
  • Use various types of welding, cutting, and soldering equipment to construct, modify or repair plant equipment and piping and structural steel as required.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all equipment as directed.  This includes lubrications and alignments as directed.
  • Capable of working with and understanding voltage configuration from low voltage DC to 13.8 KW AC.
